Happy Easter to everyone! It is a happy Easter, indeed, because Christ rose from the dead.
Let me start out by saying that we are going to take this story from a different angle. We are going to look from the view of Thomas. Yes, Thomas the disciple who doubted that Christ rose from the dead. We give him a bad name. Let us look at the events from his point of view for a little bit. First, he saw Jesus get hung on the cross and die on the cross with his own eyes. Second, he knew where the tomb of Jesus was located. Third, in his earthly mind, he could not comprehend that Jesus rose from the die in three days. This statement is clearly shown by him saying “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in His hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in His side.” This is found in John 20:25. To Thomas, he had to see to be have proof that Jesus had rose from the dead.
It wasn’t until Thomas was able to see Jesus that he believed that He (Jesus) rose from the dead. Jesus gave him permission to put his fingers in His hand and place his hand in His side (John 20:27). After Thomas did all this, he believed that Jesus rose from the dead.
This is the same in our spiritual lives today. We have a hard time seeing pass the hard times in life. I know that have been struggling in seeing the good in the way that God is shaping my life at time moment. We see the earthly problems. We can’t see the whole picture that God has for our lives. We are all at some point a “doubting Thomas.” Sometimes in our spiritual lives, we must see the steps that God is ordering in our lives to believe that He is at work.
I’m not saying that seeing is everything in our spiritual lives and believing. In our earthly minds, we can’t see what God is doing in them. In John 20:29, “Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen Me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing Me.” You see, Thomas did not use his spiritual eyes and use faith to believe that Jesus rose from the dead. We should learn from “Doubting Thomas”, and we should use our spiritual eyes and use faith in our lives when times are hard.
We should study the God’s Word more than usual. We should listen to praise and worship music more than usual. We should keep our minds upon Him and what He has done for us in our lives in the past. We should trust God’s plan for our lives and the events that are placed in our pathway.
